The pivCLASS R40 card reader from HID provides access security for government locations, meeting TWIC Reader Specifications and NIST SP 800-116 guidelines for "controlled" locations. The R40 authentication module passes encrypted Wiegand-formatted data to the controller, increasing security and affordability by placing critical operations within the facility's secure perimeter. Security is further enhanced by layering CAK authentication on top of CHUID + VIS authentication to guard against counterfeit or copied cards. The R40 is compatible with a wide variety of 13.56 MHz cards, including PIV, PIV-I, CAC, CIV, PIV-C, TWIC and FRAC. Additionally, the R40 supports iCLASS and HID Prox cards, making it easy to transition to the new PKI-enabled smart cards. The R40 reader offers excellent read ranges, including 1.5" (3.8 cm) for PIV, PIV-I, CIV, CAC, TWIC and FRAQ; 4.5" (11 cm) for iCLASS SE; 2" (5.1 cm) for DESFire EV1 SE; and 4.5" (11 cm) for MIFARE Classic SE. Suitable for indoor/outdoor use, the R40 comes in black or gray, operates on +12VDC, and measures 3.3" x 4.8" x 1.0" (8.4 x 12.2 x 2.4 cm). For ease of mounting, the R40 is sized for single gang American switch boxes and includes a mounting plate for use in Europe and Asia. Conveniently, many facilities can reuse existing wiring since up to two readers can connect to the authentication module via a four-wire RS-485 communication link. The R40 comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Choose the HID pivCLASS R40 card reader to provide enhanced security for controlled locations.
