A Zebra YMCKO ribbon is the same as a YMCK ribbon but has an additional “O” overlay panel. This Overlay panel is used to provide a thin layer of clear protection to your cards which helps protect the card from fading and normal wear and tear.
The 5 panels of a YMCKO ribbon correspond to (Y=Yellow, M=Magenta, C=Cyan, K=Black, O=Overlay) and is used for single-sided card printing.

The first 5 panels (YMCKO) are for the front side of a card (Y=Yellow, M=Magenta, C=Cyan, K=Black, O=Overlay) and provide for full-color printing with an overlay panel while the last "K" black panel is used for monochrome printing on the back side of a card. The Overlay panel provides a thin layer of clear protection to your cards which helps protect the card from fading and normal wear and tear.
This ribbon is used for dual-sided card printing.

Zebra ix Series KdO Monochrome Ribbon, 500 Images/Ribbon. For use with Zebra ZXP 3 ID Card Printers.
A Zebra KdO ribbon is used for printing monochrome cards with a clear overlay. The black “d” stands for dye sublimation so two different printing processes are used with KdO ribbons—dye sublimation for the black panel and thermal transfer for the clear overlay. The dye sublimation process allows you to print on a grey scale, creating shading and shadows and are great for printing black and white images or logos. The Overlay panel provides a thin layer of clear protection which helps with fading and normal wear and tear.
If you are printing barcodes, we recommend the use of a KrO ribbon which prints lines and text more crisply (without any shadows).

Zebra ix Series KrO Monochrome Ribbon, 500 Images/Ribbon. For use with Zebra ZXP 3 ID Card Printers.
A Zebra KrO ribbon is used for printing monochrome cards with a clear overlay and is recommended when printing barcodes.
The “r” stands for resin and is used for printing crisp lines and clear text without any shadows (ideal for barcodes). Both the black and overlay panels are printing using thermal transfer technologies. The Overlay panel provides a thin layer of clear protection which helps with protect the card from fading and normal wear and tear.
