What is the Standard 26 Bit Format? The Standard 26 Bit Format is a widely used industry standard format. Almost all access control systems can use the Standard 26 bit format. Any HID transponder can be programmed with the Standard 26-Bit card data format. The Standard 26-bit Format is an open format. "Open format" means that anyone can buy HID cards in that format. H10301 has 256 possible facility codes from 0 to 255. There can be up to 65,536 card ID numbers, from 0 to 65535, per facility code. The total number of cards that can use the entire range without duplication is 16,711,425. There are no restrictions on the use of this format. It is not tracked by HID, and HID will duplicate card numbers per customer requests. The Standard 26 Bit Format describes binary encoded data. The format consists of a leading Even parity bit, an 8 bit facility code, a 16 bit card number, and a trailing Odd parity bit. The maximum Facility Code is 255 because if all eight bits are set to ones, they equal 255 decimal. The maximum Card Number is 65535 because when all sixteen Card number field bits are ones, it equals decimal 65535.
